Minutes from the Januray 19th, 2006 meeting

Minutes from 10/6/05 approved as submitted.

Treasurer’s Report – Beverly reported that MCDA has $5125.44 in savings and $2193.33 in Checking making the total $7318.77. Beverly will check into a CD at Camden National Bank though the committee was hesitate to commit until they review the expenses and income for the June 2006 conference. There was consensus that the MCDA funds should be spent on its members for professional development. Beverly will follow-up on joint memberships with MCA.

Membership Report – Suzanne Wagner stated that there are about 5-7 new members this year. She has the current list available through email to governing board members.

Review and Update on Strategic Planning Goals – Board discussed the long list of goals recommended at an earlier board meeting and which was then reiterated during the fall 2005 workshop.

Review of strategic planning goals: The list was posted again of the goals suggested by the MCDA board at a previous meeting. These included professional development topics for conferences and workshops and mentoring new professionals to developing leadership and promoting legislative initiatives and promoting career related services. In review of the list, potential speakers for fall 2006 workshop will be sought for presentations.

June 19, 2006 Conference will be held at Kennebec Valley Community College. Registration will begin at 8:30 – 9:15; Welcome 9:15 – 9:30; keynote speaker is Dr. Nancy Schlossberg

Registration fee is $75.00 includes lunch and student fee is $35.00.

Each presentor will receive honorarium of $50.00 and lunch is provided.

Committee is hoping to have 70 attendees.

June 2007 conference – keynote speakers suggested: The Teigers, Jim Phas (?), John Krumboltz

There was a discussion that a member of the board should attend the NCDA conference and how we might choose the representative. Jim and Jill expressed interest.

Certificates of Completion – Jill will order them, sign them, get attendees from Mariah, Suzanne and Bev, mail them out to all who attended the fall workshop at USM.

Planning for the Fall 2006 workshop – Jim B. offered to coordinate the programming. First to find a location. DATE? Jill will call Suzanne Wagner to follow-up on her suggestion of the Bucksport’s office of CareerCenter. Jill will contact Colby and UMA though MCDA membership list does not include them. (NO SITE TO DATE). Hope to have 50 attendees. Suggestions for speakers and topics – bring ideas to the next meeting.

Reminder about MCA conference is at the Samoset Resort March 19-21.

Next Meeting is Wed., March 22, 2006 at KVCC starting at 9:30 am.

Meeting adjourn at 11:42 am.
