2017 MCDA Fall Workshop Agenda

overview: Change happens. Some of us turn away in denial. Others welcome new opportunities and horizons. Regardless, change comes to us all – no matter our age – in our careers, in our relationships, throughout every aspect of life. Carol Vecchio and the faculty at Centerpoint Institute for Life and Career Renewal have developed a practical and proven approach that has helped thousands upon thousands of people reframe and navigate these periods of ambiguity. Learn how to clear the fog hovering around change so we can listen, understand, and manage our own transitions as well as support the shifts of those with whom we live and work.

detailed description: Today’s stressful world with its 24/7 unending technology upgrades and frenetic pace creates confusion and tension for each of us, at every age and stage of life. This workshop is grounded in a myriad of career development theories such as Chaos, Planned Happenstance, Narrative, Career Construction, and Positive Uncertainty as well as being based on the work of others including Jung, Adler, Levinson, Sheehy, Campbell, Hudson, Bridges, Kübler-Ross, and traditions from Native American/ Aboriginal Peoples and Eastern Cultures. Based on Carol Vecchio’s book, The Time Between Dreams: How to Navigate Uncertainty in Your Life and Work, this cyclical and holistic approach to navigating uncertainty in life and work uses a seasonal metaphor.

This easily accessible “road map” has helped guide tens of thousands of people in choosing the steps they need to take in order to find their passions and missions in
life. It is quick-paced, engaging, humorous, and uses stories and quotes to inspire. The presentation links uncertainty as an energizing force, which, when embraced, can move individuals in authentic and highly congruent ways to instill hope and renewal and forge broader risk-taking.
